Hanover Avenue // Richmond's Fan District
Hanover Avenue lies in the heart of Richmond's Fan District. Hanover Ave begins just east of Lombardy Street, and ends near the Henrico line/University of Richmond. Within the Fan District, Hanover is cut by the VMFA at the Boulevard and thus makes it less of a main thoroughfare than other Fan streets. While there are examples of multi-family housing on Hanover, the street is primarily composed of single family (attached) homes with consistently some of the highest values in the Fan District other than Monument Avenue.
Along Hanover Ave, you can see row houses that are similar in scale and in materials, however they exhibit a variety of eclectic styles and features making each home unique. Architectural styles include Gothic Revival, Romanesque, Colonial Revival, Queen Anne and Second Empire.
Lombardy Park, located at the intersection of Park and Hanover, provides green space for the neighborhood and is a popular playground for many of the families with small children in the district. Fox elementary is located a short walk from most of Hanover’s finest blocks making Hanover 'family-freindly.'
Hanover Avenue, like much of the central Fan, offers a multitude of entertainment and dining options as well as small markets and several shops within a short walk.
