South of River Road // Henrico County
River Road in Henrico County is the main gateway to many of the entire Metro’s most exclusive addresses. For the neighborhoods that lie to the south of River Road, that statement becomes even more true.
The neighborhoods along this stretch date back to the early 1900’s but the majority of construction along the stretch is more 1950’s era or later. The lot sizes and estate-like feel of many of the homes in South of River were built in the period when a more formal Colonial architecture was most prevalent and thus a conservative feel exists in most neighborhoods. Home to the second node of the County club of Virginia (Tuckahoe Creek and the famed River Course), South of River is, and will continue to be, the standard against most areas in the Metro are judged.
While the area is comprised of multiple neighborhoods, many of which have boundaries that are not easily defined, the dominant names along the corridor are Mooreland Farms/Landing, Carter Oaks, Dorset Woods, parts of Westham and Windsor on the James.
The Collegiate School is located in this stretch and is a popular private school option for many.
